CNC Programmer – Mechanical Engineer

The CNC Programmer – Mechanical Engineer, shall be responsible for reviewing and modifying 3D CAD models, creating CNC milling machine programs, and collaborating closely with engineers and designers throughout the development process to ensure designs meet all the standards, while maintaining all project requirements and timelines.

This role is ideal for a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate or an individual with experience in CNC programming and CAD/CAM software who are looking to grow their career in the manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze SolidWorks models, drawings, sketches, and design data to determine dimensions, cutting configurations, tooling requirements, machine speeds, and feed rates
  • Review and modify 3D CAD models to ensure compliance with DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) standards
  • Create CNC machine programs using G-code for milling operations, and generate numeric control files (.TAP, .CNC, .NC) using the appropriate post-processors
  • Prepare setup sheets, job instructions, and process documentation to support machine operators
  • Verify CNC programs using CAMWorks simulation to ensure proper material removal and prevent collisions, gouging, or tooling issue
  • Modify and optimize machining programs to improve efficiency and eliminate programming errors
  • Follow company quality standards, policies, and procedures

Candidate Profile:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
  • Minimum 1 full year of relevant experience in CNC programming, CAD/CAM, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with SolidWorks, CAM software, and CNC machining processes would be an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret design briefs, technical drawings, safety procedures, and operational manuals
  • Proficient in preparing reports, process documentation, and audit trails
  • Must be legally authorised to work in Canada
